Journal Entry:

I went to the doctor’s today and he asked me to undergo a full-blown allergy prick test on my hand. I reacted to a whole bunch of environment allergens, but there was one that swelled so much that it practically covered the front of my arm, and then the itchy feeling shot through my arm, up through my shoulder and into my back within a few minutes of him putting the tiny drop of it on my hand.

The doctor was surprised at what happened, and said it was ragweed. The other big ones were grass and trees. But what does that have to do with my food allergies? I don’t know, although he says that they seem to be connected. He said that he didn’t try food because he was concerned that if I reacted so severely to soy before, it may be even more severe and now even life threatening. So he said I should have a blood test done.

I know my dad is having a hard time coping with the whole idea of me having food allergies because he thinks that I’m just being too sensitive. He thinks that if I was tough I would learn to control my body on my own. It’s too bad he doesn’t understand what I’m going through. My mom is good that way; at least she’s trying to understand. Although I don’t think anyone can really truly understand how I’m feeling until (Allah* forbid) they were in my shoes. Well it’s been a couple of weeks since my last entry and since then I’ve become allergic to all legumes (beans and lentils). I’ve always been allergic to peanuts and most North American fruits, but I was still surprised to learn that peanuts are actually beans not nuts. North American fruits contain the same pollen that trees and other plants do, which is why I’m allergic to these fruits. Beans include coffee, vanilla, lentils, green beans, peas, peanuts and more.
